Nick Green holds the Chair in Casting Technology in the School of Metallurgy and Materials. He leads the Casting Research Group, and is Director of the Casting Partnership with Rolls-Royce. Nick was appointed to an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Centre (EPSRC) sponsored Star Chair in 2005.
His research interests encompass processing of light alloys and high temperature materials for the automotive and aerospace sectors with emphasis on development of robust casting processes and innovation in casting process modelling. This ensures materials are efficient, more reliable and able to be used more effectively, optimising their use to reduce scrap reduction.
Nick leads Birmingham's activities in the multi-university EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Liquid Metals Engineering (LiME), working towards improved understanding of solidification science, technology development and a sustainable metallurgical industry.
Major projects that Nick is currently working on include: hybrid lightweight components for turbine and energy applications; a casting partnership with Rolls-Royce and using leading environmental technology to create affordable manufacturing in the UK.
