Our workshop facility is spread across two locations and currently has a team of nine staff with a diverse set of skills and vast experience in all areas of fabrication & manufacturing. The team is responsible for the design and manufacture of novel scientific instrumentation and apparatus for use in research & teaching.
Our Physics Workshop is equipped with state-of-the-art computer controlled two, three, four and five axis machinery and software as well as a variety of other new technology equipment, including a water jet cutting machine, a laser cutter/engraving machine, and a CNC router.
Our North Engineering Workshop has recently been re-modelled. It has a suite of five CNC machining centres and has a ‘Casual User’ facility where post graduate students and staff from other disciplines can use machines under supervision after completing a three-day workshop training course. It has a welding bay with a range of welding machines and extraction system. This is complemented by a range of conventional workshop machines and a hydraulic rolling machine and hydraulic bending machine.
Our facility completes over 600 projects annually from all areas of the University. The variety of projects is extensive and necessitates the need for such an extensive range of equipment and machinery.
We offer high level consultation, design and manufacture of bespoke items for research and teaching.
