
Research ethics, governance and integrity training

From bespoke sessions to online training modules, the University offers a range of training in research ethics, governance and integrity. There are also additional training opportunities that can be found locally via our Schools and Colleges, as well as through external sources.
Bespoke integrity, ethics and governance training
The Research Ethics, Governance and Integrity team are happy to provide bespoke sessions for colleges, schools and research groups on request. Please contact uobstudyoversight@contacts.bham.ac.uk for further details.
Central ethics process training
The Ethics team run regular sessions regarding the process of applying for University ethical approval, which are targeted at new research staff and postgraduate research students. Details of forthcoming sessions and information about how to book on these will be included here as they become available.
You can also self-enrol onto a Canvas course which explains the central ethics process.
Research Integrity online training modules
To supplement the University’s existing guidance and training on research integrity, we will soon have access to a new online research integrity training package offered by UKRIO. Further information about this will be posted in due course.

The BEAR team hold regular drop-in sessions where you can discuss secure research data storage, they can also provide bespoke training sessions for research groups and induction sessions for PhD students – to arrange this please email the team at bearinfo@contacts.bham.ac.uk

Training from the Clinical Research Compliance Team (CRCT) including an introduction to clinical research.
External training courses

Good Clinical Practice (GCP) courses offered by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) cover the needs of researchers in relation to GCP compliance. This training is mandatory for those involved in Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs).
