About the Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Centre
The Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Centre (CIIC) is a collaborative grouping of academic and clinical research groups based at the University of Birmingham and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. They are collectively focused on developing internationally outstanding basic tumour immunology research and translating key discoveries into improvements in cancer treatment.
The cross-centre grouping draws on research expertise from the University of Birmingham, including the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy and the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences, and Birmingham’s NHS Blood and Transplant service.
Research is focused on a small number of key themes which address fundamental issues in tumour immunology: understanding the tumour microenvironment, target positioning and characterisation, and immunotherapy development. Clinically these efforts are concentrated on haematological malignancies and solid tumours, with partner organisations including University Hospitals Birmingham and Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust.
