Discourse Analysis and Stylistics

Our research investigates the structures and functions of text and talk in a variety of real-world situations, drawing on a range of theoretical approaches in discourse studies.

We use mixed methods that foreground empirical research. We work on language used in different communicative contexts such as newspapers, business, education, politics, social media and literature.

Areas of research include:

  • Business discourse
  • Computer mediated discourse analysis
  • English in academic and professional contexts
  • Forensic linguistics
  • Narrative analysis
  • News media
  • Stylistics
  • Political discourse
