The Birmingham Centre for Cyber Security and Privacy produces impactful world-leading research in cyber security and privacy. The Centre prides itself in its collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, working alongside academia, industry and government to tackle cyber security challenges in our society.

Building on an established strength in the analysis of security systems, our research is concerned with all aspects of security and privacy for business, government and society.

The Birmingham Centre for Cyber Security and Privacy is recognised by the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in partnership with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR).

We are entering an era of ubiquitous computing as powerful sensors, smart devices and 5G networks enable billions of products and systems to be connected to the Internet - and each other. But in their rush to release futuristic gadgets, companies are also handing new opportunities to hackers.

How can we stay safe from hackers in the era of ‘smart products’?

This status builds upon the already exceptional quality of research taking place here at the University of Birmingham. Our academics are dedicated to research that strengthens our security infrastructures, developing secure systems and protocols that safeguard our systems and protect our privacy.
