Climate Change and Health

Our Climate Change and Health theme aims to understand the crucial intersection of climate change, environmental sustainability, and human health. As the impacts of climate change become increasingly evident, we are seeing a rise in climate-sensitive diseases such as malaria and dengue, as well as the growing health burdens associated with environmental degradation. At the same time, the healthcare sector itself contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, making the need for sustainable, climate-resilient health systems more urgent.

  • Hands held under running water

We focus on the wide-ranging effects of climate change on both physical and mental health, exploring how environmental changes are directly linked to the well-being of individuals and communities. Our research also highlights the health co-benefits of climate action—such as improved air quality, the promotion of active travel, and dietary changes—which can contribute to healthier populations while simultaneously addressing the climate crisis.

In addition, we seek to support the transition to sustainable, net-zero healthcare systems and help build climate-resilient health infrastructures. By understanding the interconnectedness of climate change, biodiversity loss, and public health, we seek to generate practical solutions that strengthen our capacity to adapt to these challenges.

Through collaborations with policymakers, practitioners, and communities, we aim to raise awareness of the health dimensions of climate change and drive meaningful change towards a more sustainable and healthier future for all.
