Fees for postgraduate taught courses
Fees information for postgraduate taught courses.
Postgraduate study is a significant financial commitment and we want you to be completely aware of the associated costs before becoming a student at Birmingham. Information on tuition fees and other related costs will help you plan your finances from day one.
The annual tuition fee is set for a 12-month session, which usually runs from October to the end of September the following year. Tuition fees vary depending on the course you choose and whether you are a home (UK/Ireland) or international (and EU) student. Details of the postgraduate tuition fees can be found on each course page.
Tuition fee amounts
The University tuition fee covers the cost of your tuition, examination and graduation, and includes membership of the Guild of Students. Individual programmes may charge a different fee from that quoted.
Where this is the case it is made clear in the individual course listings within course finder. You should always check the fee for your course. When a programme begins and/or ends mid-session, fees are normally charged on a pro-rata basis according to the number of months studied within a session.
How to pay your tuition fees
Tuition fees are payable at the start of your programme of study and at the beginning of each subsequent academic year. You can choose to pay your tuition fees in full or make monthly or termly instalment payments using the University direct debit scheme from a UK bank account.
Other costs and fees
Depending on your subject, there may also be additional costs associated with field trips, travel and activities off-campus. You will also need to meet the costs of printing your Masters dissertation to the University's requirements.
In addition to paying your tuition fees you will also need to plan how you will meet your living costs while undertaking your studies. You can learn more about the cost of living in Birmingham through our website.
