The course tutors were lovely, encouraging, and helpful – which I really needed as one of the main reasons for me choosing to study this course was wanting to improve my confidence in my work by gaining knowledge as well as widening my skill set. The teaching suited me, with pre-recorded lectures to watch at your convenience. The modules are set out well including links to appropriate papers and resources and build on the previous modules.
Course Structure
This course will run over 2 years in a part-time mode. While the exact content may change, here’s what you can expect to study each year.
Year One covers the fundamentals of restorative dentistry. This clinically focused course begins with digital photography, excelling in occlusal anatomy and restoration design. There is a key focus on mastering posterior composite restorations, contemporary partial denture design and perfecting anterior fixed ceramic restorations. Non-surgical periodontal treatment closely follows with endodontic access and instrumentation utilising a minimally invasive approach.

Course delivery
The programme’s flexible design allows you to study independently 24/7 at times that are suitable to you. The programme will contain two residential weeks based in Birmingham (one week per year) and will allow you to receive direct hands-on tuition from some of the world's most experienced dental educators. Our Restorative Dentistry master's degree includes a wide variety of learning and teaching. You will also benefit from using the simulation suite at the £50 million School of Dentistry.
Module information
Study is divided into seven interlinked modules over two years, with theoretical and practical training. You’ll complete six 20 credit modules, as well as a 60 credit Clinical Portfolio where you will demonstrate advanced skill in all aspects of world-class, evidence-based, restorative dentistry.

Entry requirements
- An undergraduate dental degree.
Access to treat patients to complete the assignments.
English language requirements
If you are an international student, you will need to demonstrate you have a suitable level of English proficiency, usually through the form of an IELTS or equivalent qualification.
For this course we require IELTS 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in any band, which is equivalent to:
- TOEFL: 95 overall with no less than 22 in any component
- Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic 76 with no less than 67 in all four skills
- Cambridge English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency - minimum overall score of 185, with no less than 176 in any component
- LanguageCert ESOL SELT (UKVI): C1 'Expert' with no less than 25 in each skill
English Presessional Programmes
Improve your knowledge of spoken and written English in preparation for studying at Birmingham with our pre-sessional English courses. If you have a conditional offer, you can take one of these courses as an alternative to retaking IELTS or other similar qualifications.

The fees quoted are for one year only; for those studying courses over two or more years, tuition fees will also be payable in subsequent years of your programme.

Part-time (Distance Learning)
Postgraduate Masters Loan
To help with the cost of studies, this loan is available to all UK students. You can use this loan towards fees, maintenance or other costs at your own discretion. It’s available for all full-time, part-time and distance learning Masters programmes, as long as you don’t already have a Masters qualification (or equivalent).If you’re a student from Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can apply for Masters loans from your country’s government.
