Designed for those with no previous background marketing knowledge, our MSc Marketing course will develop your marketing expertise and the critical, data, analytical, communication and ethical capabilities required for a successful career.
In the dynamic and ever-changing world of business, evolving marketing theory and practice create and shape upcoming trends. The innovative design of this programme with an optional consultancy project and a ‘block’ teaching approach offers a more immersive learning experience that gives you the option to specialise in a chosen pathway.

Course delivery
Our Marketing Master's degree includes a wide variety of learning and teaching.
- Taught modules – these include lectures, workshops, seminars and practical labs.
- Assessments - these will include group and individual projects, group presentations, individual reports, essays and briefing papers
- Dissertation Project - you will have the opportunity to work with industry partners using real data to address a problem or opportunity facing a real company or to undertake a standard academic dissertation

The course comprises of 180 credits, taught through a series of 20 credit modules and a 40 credit Dissertation or Company Project . Students will study three core modules and choose four optional modules.

Entry requirements
To gain a place at Birmingham you will need to meet our general entry requirements, as well as those specific to your course. Your application will be reviewed by the course’s Admissions Tutor, who will decide whether your application should receive an offer.
- Honours degree (2:1 or higher)
or postgraduate diploma from a UK university (or overseas equivalent) in any subject.
In order to be considered, applicants will have or should be expecting to achieve an Honours degree (2:1 or higher) or postgraduate diploma from a UK university (or overseas equivalent) in any subject.
Applicants who demonstrate being able to exceed the minimum entry requirements will be given preference.
English language requirements
If you are an international student, you will need to demonstrate you have a suitable level of English proficiency, usually through the form of an IELTS or equivalent qualification.
For this course we require IELTS 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in any band, which is equivalent to:
- TOEFL: 95 overall with no less than 22 in any component
- Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic 76 with no less than 67 in all four skills
- Cambridge English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency - minimum overall score of 185, with no less than 176 in any component
- LanguageCert ESOL SELT (UKVI): C1 'Expert' with no less than 25 in each skill
English Presessional Programmes
Improve your knowledge of spoken and written English in preparation for studying at Birmingham with our pre-sessional English courses. If you have a conditional offer, you can take one of these courses as an alternative to retaking IELTS or other similar qualifications.

The fees quoted are for one year only. For those studying courses that are longer than one year, tuition fees will also be payable in subsequent years of your programme.
Paying your tuition fees

Postgraduate Masters Loan
To help with the cost of studies, this loan is available to all UK students. You can use this loan towards fees, maintenance or other costs at your own discretion. It’s available for all full-time, part-time and distance learning Masters programmes, as long as you don’t already have a Masters qualification (or equivalent).If you’re a student from Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can apply for Masters loans from your country’s government.
