Taught by the Institute of Local Government Studies (INLOGOV), the UK’s leading academic centre for research and teaching on local governance and strategic public management, this course is project-based and focuses primarily on the practical aspects of project implementation. It’s through the influence of INLOGOV that you’ll learn to recognise and apply the principles of programme and project management – and how project management relates to overall programmes.
After completing the 8-week course, you will receive an official University of Birmingham postgraduate micro-credential certificate (worth 10 academic credits) and a transcript. You will be able to use these academic credits to apply for advanced entry to the University of Birmingham’s full Online Masters of Public Administration (MPA) qualification.
Why study this course?
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Analyse the strengths and limitations of different approaches to programme and project management and their suitability for different types of programmes (e.g. complex inter-agency and partner-based projects – or single service projects)
- Manage the multiple human factors which impact on project and programme management: business, financial and political.
- Apply the necessary skills to enable the successful management of programmes and projects from design through risk assessment, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
- Apply an appropriate range of theories, techniques and frameworks
