Professor Alice Roberts confirmed as host for Saturday evening Green Heart Prom

The University of Birmingham has announced that Professor Alice Roberts will be hosting this year's Green Heart prom alongside Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir David Eastwood on Saturday 8 June.

The University of Birmingham has announced that Professor Alice Roberts will be hosting this year’s Green Heart prom alongside Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir David Eastwood on Saturday 8 June.

Alice is Professor of Public Engagement in Science at The University of Birmingham, and her research interests focus on evolutionary anatomy, osteoarchaeology and palaeopathology. She has considerable experience in science communication: she has presented several landmark series on the BBC and written seven popular science books.

Professor Alice Roberts said: “I am delighted to welcome the community to our new Green Heart parkland at the centre of our campus for what will be a specular evening of music and singing from the University of Birmingham symphony Orchestra with our talented festival voices and distinguished solo performances, ending with a rousing fireworks finale.”

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, Professor David Eastwood, said: “This is the biggest free outdoor event that the University of Birmingham has ever hosted. We are proud to be opening our gates to the wider community, and want all in the city and the region to know they are welcome. Whether they spend half an hour on campus finding out about a life-changing piece of research, bring their picnic for the prom event, or whether they make a weekend of it, we very much look forward to welcoming them.”

The evening will take place on the stunning striking new parkland in the centre of the University of Birmingham’s historic campus which opened earlier on in January this year and is part of a weekend-long festival on 8-9 June. The Green Heart, with its auditorium and café, space for markets, performances and events such as the upcoming festival.

Alice Roberts is currently starring in Channel 4’s Britain's Most Historic Towns and will be on her second leg of her Digging into Britain's Past tour across the UK this autumn.
