Department of Film and Creative Writing wins awards at the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies Conference in Warwick this week.
Staff and students from the Department of Film and Creative Writing were delighted to be honoured with awards at the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies Conference in Warwick this week.
In the Practice Research category, Dr Chris Nunn’s Children of the Wicker Man (directed by Chris, Justin Hardy and Dominic Hardy) was the overall winner for Best Feature. The award was collected by Ella Wright, who edited the documentary and is the Department’s Digital and Media technician. Ella also presented at the Rebellious Research panel for the BAFTSS Practice Research SIG, in the context of their own doctoral study.
Leo (Qinran) Wang received an honourable mention in the Videographic Criticism category for his video essay Humanitarian Gaze in Refugee Documentary, an incredible achievement following his conference paper Are you coming to help or hurt? Drone footage usage in refugee documentaries, nature documentaries and war propaganda.
Also receiving an honourable mention was Xanthe Pajarillo in the PGR poster showcase, with Silly Adults… Horror is for Kids! Like Leo and Ella, Xanthe is enrolled on the Audiovisual PhD programme, with creative practice underpinning her research, and she also presented in the PGR Roundtable session.
Colleagues Cat Lester, Carleigh Morgan and Christina Wilkins gave papers and chaired panels as well, rounding off what was an extremely fruitful conference for Team FCW.
Congratulations to Chris, Ella, Leo and Xanthe!
