Twenty undergraduate students have received bursaries from the School of Mathematics to conduct research projects in Summer 2024.
Each year, the School of Mathematics offers funded opportunities to undergraduate students to experience research in the mathematical sciences.
In 2023-24, 20 students received bursaries from the School of Mathematics to undertake summer research projects, working with academic supervisors from the School across a wide range of topics. This cohort consists of 10 students from each of the B15 campus and the Jinan-Birmingham Joint Institute (J-BJI), and includes nine female or non-binary students. Three of the UK-based students are supported jointly by the London Mathematical Society Undergraduate Research Bursary scheme.
This year's summer projects will explore a broad spectrum of areas, from invariant theory, analysis and statistics, to financial mathematics, machine learning and quantum mechanics. Students will share their research at a hybrid presentation day at the start of the 2024-25 academic year. As well as giving students an opportunity to showcase their work, this will also be an occasion for the School to celebrate their research, and we look forward to hearing from this year's cohort of summer project students.
