Congratulations to members of the Institute for Textual Scholarship and Electronic Editing who graduated in the University graduation ceremony today.
Three doctoral students from ITSEE were awarded their PhD as part of the summer graduation series today. Dr Clark Bates, Dr Andrew Patton, and Dr Emanuele Scieri all received their doctoral degrees in person.
Following their studies at Birmingham, they have all gone on to academic positions elsewhere. Clark is teaching at Forge Theological Seminary in the USA, Andrew has a postdoctoral fellowship at KU Leuven in Belgium, and Emanuele is working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow.
Andrew and Emanuele were both doctoral researchers on the European Research Council CATENA project, while Clark won a scholarship on the Midlands4Cities doctoral training programme. Their lead supervisor was Professor Hugh Houghton, Director of ITSEE, who said:
It has been a privilege to work with these scholars in ITSEE over the last few years, who have been a really supportive and close-knit community. Overcoming the challenges posed by relocating to Birmingham during the middle of the pandemic, their completion of their doctorates during the expected timeframe is a great achievement. Over the last four years, they have been involved in a remarkable range of activities, from teaching and organising workshops and conferences, to writing blogposts, publishing articles in leading journals and winning University prizes. I am delighted by their success and ongoing academic career, and look forward to following their work in future.
All three of the new graduates are working on preparing their doctoral research for publication as monographs. The theses will also be available in the University of Birmingham eTheses repository.
