Family Fun with Ferocious Fauna

The Lapworth Museum of Geology recounts a recent Family Fun Day.

On 7 August 2024, the Museum was taken over by a flurry of families for Wonders of the Ice Age. Led by Jake Atterby and Anna Leppänen, the event explored a fascinating time over 10,000 years ago, when the world was frozen and woolly beasts ruled the land. Jake presented a short, informative talk which posed many scientific questions to the young audience, including what the Ice Age was, what types of animals were around, and how this geologic period came to an end; all with a stall covered in genuine fossils and casts from the Museum collections.

Throughout the day, a letter trail and arts and crafts were also available, and Anna even read the story of Cave Baby by Julia Donaldson and Emily Gravett. Furthermore, the Museum's new placement students staffed a stall littered with specimens and answered questions while the public took part in fossil handling.

Overall, the Museum had a roaring time presenting Wonders of the Ice Age, and the team hope all those who attended enjoyed their day uncovering the spectacles of the distant past.
