What can we learn about human negotiation through a dialogue between ancient diplomacy and the diplomacy of the 20th and 21st century?

In a world where we observe frequent and ongoing disruptions and shifting power dynamics on local, regional and global scales how can conversations about the past and present diplomatic performances and spaces help us better understand the value and purpose of diplomacy for our future?

This podcast is part of a British Academy funded project (SG2122\21074) and was developed out of a interdisciplinary workshop (11-12 July 2023) which brought together historians of ancient Rome and late Antiquity with global historians, geographers and International Relations experts.
