The School of Chemistry has received excellent feedback from its students in the 2024 National Student Survey.

 We are committed to providing high quality teaching, learning and support. It is our highest priority and our strong survey results show that final year students on both BSc and MSci pathways are very happy with their experience.

The School has been ranked top in the Russell Group* for Teaching on my Course; Academic Support; Organisation and Management and has scored in the top three for all seven teaching and learning themes.

In the School of Chemistry community, we support all students to reach their academic potential while truly enjoying their experience at Birmingham.

We provide academic and pastoral support from a Personal Academic Tutor as well as dedicated Subject, Year and Placement Tutors. Our School Welfare tutor also offers a direct link to the University’s Wellbeing, Counselling, Financial, Disability and Learning Support teams.

Students join in-person lectures, small-group tutorials, lab sessions and workshops all supported via our digital learning platform Canvas, plus other innovative learning tools. Our lecturers also have dedicated student contact hours in their offices.

We’ve recently invested £120 million into facilities such as the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory and the Molecular Sciences Building so students have access to state-of-the-art instrumentation and can work alongside our world-leading researchers.
