To celebrate South Asian Heritage Month, Culture Forward sponsored the University Race Equality Network’s Cultural Showcase event, on 7th August 2024.
The event saw a range of activities for staff to engage with, including henna painting, mindfulness colouring, South Asian music, learning about traditional Punjabi clothes and jewellery, and taking part in Culture Forward’s Qu’ran transcription project.
The Cultural Showcase was also an opportunity to connect with the wider community of South Asians in the city. The event was catered by a local organisation, Mahirs, and also saw attendance from two Brahma Kumaris Sisters who were teaching attendees about the Rakshabandhan tradition which is celebrated within Hinduism and Sikhism.
The event was attended by over 130 staff members and received brilliant feedback citing that it was an amazing opportunity to meet other colleagues and hear about their heritage, but also that they would like to attend this event annually.
Amidst a period of national unrest, the Cultural Showcase allowed staff from all backgrounds the safe space to celebrate the different cultures on show, and the diversity within our community.
