We are delighted to announce that the University of Birmingham has been shortlisted for the Greater Birmingham Chamber Award: Technology and Innovation.

This shortlisting is testament to how the University, across academics and professional services, works effectively with industry to drive impactful outcomes. We collaborate with organisations of all sizes, from global corporates to local SMEs through partnerships to work on innovative, transformative projects. We make important things happen and support the University with its civic mission to promote positive economic and societal growth. In the current landscape the need for Higher Education and business collaboration couldn’t be greater, to help the Government boost UK R&D spending to 2.4% of GDP.

The Business Engagement team is a high-profile, best-in-class unit within the University of Birmingham, supporting and developing industry relationships and promoting collaborative partnerships between business and academia. We support a full range of engagements, from non-financial activity, working with companies to showcase ideas through events and lectures, through to research specific awards for multiple millions for a single piece of research.

It is with this background that our focus on driving positive outcomes for business in the areas of technology and innovation were presented. Through effective partnership and engagement with industry, there is a well-supported pathway for businesses to work with the University, using technology to solve a myriad of issues, from effective, green supply chain refrigeration technology, through to understanding AI in professional services to more effectively plan long-term business strategies.

Fingers crossed for the eventual announcement on the winner in April!
