RailSoc had another fantastic spring term!
The members of the Society were privileged to visit Alstom’s rolling stock modernisation facility in Widnes near Liverpool. After a presentation about the history of Alstom, their current operations and the work undertaken at Widnes we were given a guided tour of the facility. Widnes is one of the most modern railway depots in the UK and its scale is immense with a full 11 car train fitting in the facility. A highlight for many of us was seeing one of Virgin Train’s Pendolino trainsets being prepared for painting into its new colour scheme.

The society also held it’s AGM where the members elected the committee for 2019/20. Matthew was re-elected as chair for the third year, William was elected as treasurer and Cameron was elected as our secretary. After the AGM we moved to the BCRRE labs to have a go on the university’s cab simulator! Members had a great time driving a virtual train along the Cross City line through university station.
