The University of Birmingham is delighted to announce that Professor Laura Green OBE has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Life and Environmental Sciences.
The University of Birmingham is delighted to announce that Professor Laura Green OBE has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Life and Environmental Sciences.
Professor Green, who will join the University in October 2018, is currently Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor- Interdisciplinary Research and Impact at the University of Warwick.
Announcing the appointment Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, Professor Sir David Eastwood, said: “Laura is an outstanding researcher and brings significant leadership experience, a clear focus, and impressive track record on delivering the best possible experience for students. I am confident that under Laura’s leadership the College’s ambitious plans to build on its excellence in research and teaching, both on campus and overseas, will be achieved. Laura’s stature will ensure Birmingham continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the regional and national life sciences agenda.”
Professor Green is a member of the BBSRC Council and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and the Higher Education Academy. She has been nationally recognised for her services to the health and welfare of farmed livestock and has served on several national research strategy panels targeted at improving health, welfare and sustainability of farming and food security. Professor Green is also a panel member for EU ERANET grants.
Accepting the post, Professor Green said: “I am delighted to be joining University of Birmingham as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Life and Environmental Sciences and working with staff and students to continue to deliver the University’s ambitious plans.”
Professor Green graduated from the University of Bristol with a bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science and spent a year in general practice before undertaking an MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She studied for a PhD at the University of Bristol and spent her early career there as a lecturer. She joined the University of Warwick in 1999, was promoted to a Chair in 2005 and was Head of the School of Life Sciences from 2014 – 2017. She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Nottingham.
