The POLSIS European Studies Research Group and the LGBTQ+ Network of the School of Government hosted a talk by Dr Koen Slootmaeckers (City University) with title ‘Not 'Coming Out'? The Attitudinal Panopticon and the Shallow Europeanisation of LGBT Rights in Serbia’. The talk, which was supported by POLSIS and the School’s Equality and Diversity fund, drew on Dr Slootmaeckers doctoral research, which was recently awarded the 2018 Universities Association for Contemporary European Studies Best Thesis Prize.

Dr George Kyris, who hosted the event, commented, “We were delighted that different groups of the School were able to join forces and bring together students and staff from diverse backgrounds. Dr Slootmaeckers gave a thought-provoking talk, which triggered a very interesting discussion afterwards and raise the visibility of LGBTQ research, in line with the Equality and Diversity priorities of our school’.
