A new study aimed to develop, implement and evaluate an anti-doping intervention for young athletes is now underway. The two-year project, led by Dr Maria Kavussanu, with Professor Chris Ring, Professor Fabio Lucidi and Dr Vassilis Barkoukis as co-investigators, is taking place in the UK, Italy and Greece.

Funded by the International Olympic Committee, the aim of the project is to develop a novel intervention challenging athletes’ justifications for doping (i.e., moral disengagement) and strengthening their confidence to resist doping temptations (i.e., self-regulatory efficacy). The intervention will be compared with a standard programme aiming to educate athletes about performance enhancing drugs and their health consequences.
