esearchers from the University of Birmingham’s School of Chemical Engineering and Birmingham Centre for Energy Storage have recently organised and delivered the UK-China International Particle Technology Forum VI in the city of Yangzhou, China.
The forum supported knowledge sharing of particle science and engineering research and also facilitated more effective communications between UK and Chinese researchers.

This year’s forum was held on 8-10 September 2017 and brought together many well-known experts and scholars in the field of particle science and engineering to discuss recent advances and debate the future development in the field.
The programme consisted of both fundamental and applied aspects of particle science and engineering, including particle synthesis, characterization and measurement, particle processing and manufacture, particulate product engineering, modelling and simulation, and emerging applications of particles in various fields.

Professor Yulong Ding, Director of the Birmingham Centre for Energy Storage, jointly chaired the forum with Professor Liejin Guo from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. Professor Mike Adams and Professor Zhibing Zhang from school of Chemical Engineering also delivered lectures on micro and macro stress boundary conditions in particulate systems and microencapsulation as a platform technology for developing functional products, respectively.
The first UK-China International Particle Technology Forum was held in Leeds in 2007. Subsequent forums have been held every two years since 2007, alternating between the UK and China. The University of Birmingham last hosted the forum in 2011.
