EESE Soc have had a busy start to the new academic year! President Helen Watson tells us more.

EESE Soc are back for another year and we've had a great to start with lots of freshers getting involved in our activities.

The year kicked off with our annual FIFA football tournament. With 24 entrants the group stage (where six players played against each other and the top two from each group progressed to the knock out stages) took longer than normal but eventually a winner was crowned. Congratulations to Aaron, 4th year MEng, who beat tough competition from 2nd year Kris in the final, winning 4-2.

We also teed-off for a round of pub golf around Selly Oak that was enjoyed by all members! Starting at Joe’s in the Guild, we visited The Goose, The Soak, The Lounge and The Bristol Pear before finishing at Urban Village.

Our ever popular football team the EESE Shockers has now expanded and a second team, the EESE Chargers, has now been entered into the intramural 6-a-side league run by the University. Both teams have had a great start to the year with the EESE Shockers (at the time of writing) currently sitting at the top of the league! The season got off to a tense start when we discovered the first match would be the EESE teams playing against each other; however it didn't end up being a close match with the final score ending 9-1 to the Shockers.

On 17th November we held our annual careers fair. This year was a great success and was attended by 14 employers and over 100 students. Both the companies and students felt that the event was really a really useful time to network and some good connections were made. We hope that its success will be proved in the number of jobs and placements gained by our students this year! One of the best aspects of the event was the number of alumni and current students on placements who came back to promote their companies and share their experiences. This is something that is highly valuable to our students and on behalf of them we would like to thank all the alumni who attended, as our event would not have been a success without you!

Currently the committee are busy planning events for the rest of the term, including a trip to London to visit the Science Museum, which is set to be a great day out. Look out for our next update to hear all about it!
