Following the recent 2014 annual Priestley Lecture at the School of Education, Professor Peter Davies reflects on comments made by speaker Estelle Morris regarding the relationship politicians have with education.

He questions whether 1979 was such a watershed for politicians’ belief in their ability to improve the schools by reorganising them and the proposal by Estelle Morris to have an education version of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
