The University of Birmingham and Manipal University in India have signed an agreement this month formalising educational links between the two institutions. The partnership will enable students to complete their first two years of study at Manipal then progress directly into year two at Birmingham.

The partnership will enable students to complete their first two years of study at Manipal then progress directly into year two at Birmingham.
The agreement specifically caters for engineering and physical sciences students who have successfully completed the first two academic years at Manipal in either Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic and Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
Upon successful completion of two further years at Birmingham, students will be awarded a degree by the University of Birmingham.
Dr Steven Quigley, Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, said: “We look forward to welcoming talented students from Manipal to the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences here at Birmingham, where we have been at the forefront of teaching and research in these disciplines for over 100 years.”
Dr H. Vinod Bhat, Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Manipal University, added: “The signing of the agreement marks the beginning of a teaching and research partnership between the University of Birmingham and Manipal University.We would be closely looking at the prospects of research collaborations in the areas of medicine, life sciences, architecture and engineering; using the articulation agreement for transfer of credits in the engineering programme as the first touch point."
Programmes available under the agreement in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Birmingham include: BEng Mechanical Engineering; BEng Civil Engineering; BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering; BEng Computer Systems Engineering; and BSc Computer Science. Where appropriate students can also apply for admission to year two of the four-year MEng or MSci degree.
