How does the training provider deliver the training?

They deliver the training online through their online Virtual Learning Area and have live online lectures on Adobe Connect. There is usually around 20 of us who are on the course and mean that we are able to chat with the other apprentices.

How does your course/mentor support you?

Our coaches have 1:1 meetings with us every 6 weeks to discuss the progress of our course, to help us practice for our final assessment, and set personal targets with us to help progress ourselves during the course. If we need to, we can contact them at any point to book additional meetings with them if we are concerned about anything or have any questions which need clarification so we aren't left in the dark about anything.

What is your typical day at work?

A typical day at work looks like: 8:30am-9:00am: arrive at work and check emails and calendar for the day to review deadlines or meetings which I will attend. 9:00am-4:30pm: work on any work I need to do either for my training provider (if its my study day) or work for the project. I will contact members of my team to ensure I am on the same page with people. In this time, I will also attend any meetings which I have been invited to which I would take notes and ask questions as needed about the project. Additionally, I would be attending additional training set by my line manager or which I have been invited to learn about different aspects of Project Management which will be important to my role.

What has been the best part of your apprenticeship?

Being able to experience different departments and teams around academic services which I wouldn't get working anywhere else. It gives me the chance to work out which areas of Project Management I enjoy or are interested in which I wouldn't get working anywhere else.

What do you hope to do on completion of your apprenticeship?

I hope, by the end of my apprenticeship, is to continue working either here at UOB or work in Higher Education as a Project Manager as I enjoy the challenges and work which make up an institution which is something you wouldn't get working in a different field.
