Alex Ferranti
Student Services and Race Equality Network Co-Chair
It is important for me to be able to work in a diverse environment which promotes equality and inclusion and I believe that the University offers such environment to me.
Our students come from all over the world, which gives me the opportunity to use my language skills directly with native speakers and I have met many working colleagues that share the same cultural values as me in the workplace.
Additionally, I appreciate the University’s commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives in the workforce, such as our History Months and staff networks.
Furthermore, as a parent, I enjoy the flexible working environment that the University offers. I can, when needed, accommodate childcare around my work, especially now as we benefit from flexible working conditions post-covid. Additionally, I have always been offered and encourage to attend training opportunities from my line managers, which is great for my career development.
I think that mental wellbeing particularly important nowadays, and I think that being able to work in a place that values my contribution, has great green facilities and encourages my development contributes positively to my mental health.
I am very proud to work for the University of Birmingham and would encourage you to consider working here too.
