Award Description
These scholarships, for international undergraduate students in programmes from Materials Science and Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Nuclear Science and Engineering, enable you to be recognised and rewarded for your excellent academic achievements before arriving as a student at the University of Birmingham.
You could either be awarded the Achievement Scholarship or Excellence Scholarship, depending on the level of your achievements.
Value of Award
The Metallurgy and Materials International Achievement Scholarship consists of £1500 tuition fee discount or cash transfer in each year of your undergraduate degree for all students who meet the criteria below.
The Metallurgy and Materials International Excellence Scholarship conists of £3000 tuition fee discount or cash transfer during the first year of your undergraduate degree for all students who meet the criteria below.
Eligibility Criteria
The Metallurgy and Materials International Achievement Scholarship
To be eligible for this award you must:
- Obtain the following results or equivalent in other qualification systems*
- A Levels AAB
- IB: 6, 6, 5 from Higher Levels
- HKDSE: 5, 5, 4
- Indian Standard XII ISC, CBSE, Maharashtra 80% overall
- Indian Standard XII West Bengal: 75% overall
- Indian Standard XII Other State board: 85% overall
- Malaysian STPM: Grades equivalent to A level grades above
- Your fees are not wholly paid by a sponsoring body
- Be classified as international for fees on your acceptance to the university.
- Be accepted to one of the following courses for year 1 entry in 2022 after placing it as firm choice in UCAS:
- The International Achievement Scholarship cannot be held in the same year as the International Excellence Scholarship. The Excellence scholarship takes priority over this award.
To renew this award in a subsequent year of study you must:
- Hold Mathematics International Achievement Scholarship or Mathematics International Excellence Scholarship in the previous academic year.
- Achieve 70% year average at the first attempt in your previous year of study.
- Renewal will pause for years spent in international study or intercalated study and will restart during your return to study in the School of Metallurgy and Materials at Birmingham, based on the performance from the year before your year out.
No application is required, all those who meet the conditions above will be contacted by the end of welcome week 2022.
Metallurgy and Materials International Excellence Scholarship
To be eligible for this award you must:
- Obtain the following results or equivalent in other qualification systems*
- A Levels A*AA
- IB: 7, 6, 6 from Higher Levels
- HKDSE: 5*, 5, 5
- Indian Standard XII ISC, CBSE, Maharashtra 90% in one subject and 85% overall
- Indian Standard XII West Bengal: 85% in one subject and 80% overall
- Indian Standard XII Other State board: 95% in one subject and 90% overall
- Malaysian STPM: Grades equivalent to A level grades above
- Your fees are not wholly paid by a sponsoring body
- Be classified as international for fees on your acceptance to the university.
- Be accepted to one of the following courses for year 1 entry in 2022 after placing it as firm choice in UCAS:
- The International Excellence Scholarship cannot be held in the same year as the International Achievement Scholarship. The Excellence Scholarship takes priority.
Holders of the Metallurgy and Materials International Excellence Scholarship are eligible for the Metallurgy and Materials International Achievement award, see details above, in subsequent years of study if you:
- Hold Metallurgy and Materials International Achievement Scholarship or Metallurgy and Materials International Excellence Scholarship in the previous academic year.
- Achieve 70% year average at the first attempt in your previous year of study.

* Conversion from other qualification systems is calculated internally by the university, to enquire about your qualifications, please contact the student recruitment team.
