Register as a Reader

To use the material held at the Cadbury Research Library, researchers must register for a Reader's Card when they arrive on their first visit. The card is valid for three years and is specific to the Cadbury Research Library; it cannot be used to access the University Main Library or any other University facilities.

How to register for a CRL Reader's Card

• On your first visit you will be asked to fill in a registration form and agree to abide by the regulations governing the use of Special Collections material. Allow five minutes for this process.
• If you are a University of Birmingham student or staff member your University of Birmingham ID card will be sufficient proof of identification.
• All other prospective users must bring official identification showing your name, printed address and signature; a driving licence is sufficient. 
• If you do not have a driving licence please bring two alternative forms of identification: one showing your name and signature (a passport, debit card or credit card) and one showing your printed address (a recent bank statement, utility bill, council tax bill, medical card or social security book).

If you forget to bring your ID 

• If you do not bring the required forms of identification we will be unable to issue you with a CRL Reader's Card and you will not be able to access the rare books and archives.

How to replace expired, lost or stolen CRL Reader's Cards

• When your CRL Reader's Card expires after three years you will need to re-register for a replacement card by bringing the required forms of identification again.  
• If your card is lost or stolen it is important to notify us immediately so that we can cancel your card. You will need to bring the required identification again to register for a replacement card.
