Course overview
Help keep our world moving as a mechanical engineer. Our MEng Mechanical Engineering programme not only prepares you for a career but will broaden your experience with study in the UK as well as Dubai.
Study with us and you could go on to roles including designing, manufacturing, installing and testing anything from nanoscale robots to spacecraft. You’ll learn how to tackle engineering challenges in a range of industries.

Course Structure
This course will run over 4 years full-time, comprising of lectures, tutorials, assignments, laboratory work, quizzes and project work, collaboratively supervised by research-led academics and industry engineers. You will spend years 1 and 2 at our Dubai campus and years 3 and 4 at our UK campus.
Year one builds a strong foundation in engineering principles, enhancing understanding of behaviour, policy, entrepreneurship and global perspectives.
You'll engage in flexible educational models and explore essential mechanical engineering fundamentals. An option to study in the UK is available for the second year.
Course highlights
You can begin with core mechanical engineering subjects and develop the expertise to tackle real-world problems using theoretical as well as practical knowledge and the use of specialised engineering software. From mechanics to computer programming and sustainable energy, you’ll learn the essentials and be able to specialise in areas of interest.
Start at our new, technology enhanced 'smart' campus in Dubai, then embrace a global experience when you transfer to the UK. In Birmingham, you can hear from industry guests, deepen your knowledge with an in-depth research project and get set for an exciting career.

You will begin your studies on the BEng Mechanical Engineering in Dubai. After two years, you will then have the opportunity to transfer onto the MEng Mechanical Engineering at our UK campus to study years three and four.
Enhance your chances of getting a great job with this experience and the MEng degree is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. You would have to meet an academic threshold for progression to the MEng at the end of your second year in Dubai.

Course delivery
Teaching is jointly delivered by academic staff in Dubai and the UK, offering high-quality learning resources and assessments where you can undertake interdisciplinary or industry-supervised projects.

Learning and teaching methods will take the form of lectures, classes, case study work, online assignments and quizzes, presentations and self-directed study.
Work will be assessed via exams, coursework, presentations and a dissertation. To enrich your learning experience, our teaching is jointly delivered by staff in Dubai and the UK. Typically, each module’s preparation team consists of staff members across both campuses with at least the module leader based in the Dubai campus. You'll receive the same high-quality teaching and learning resources (lecture notes, tutorial sheets, video resources, example lectures, logbooks, etc.) and rigorous assessments (projects, coursework, assignments, exams, etc) as your fellow students on the UK campus.
You'll have the opportunity to conduct projects under the supervision of staff members from either campus. You can also work on projects that are collaboratively supervised by staff members in other Schools within the University and with industry-based engineers, which significantly increases the type of project topics available. You'll also have the option to propose projects based on your interests during your final year project and in the coursework of some modules.
You will spend your penultimate and final year studying at our picturesque campus in Birmingham, UK.

Entry requirements
To secure your place at the University of Birmingham Dubai, you must meet both our general entry requirements and the specific criteria for your chosen course. Your application will be carefully reviewed by the course’s Admissions Tutor, who will determine if you will receive an offer.
- A Level
AAB - ABB including A Level Mathematics grade A. If you are taking any reformed A levels, which include Biology, Chemistry and Physics taught from 2015, you must pass the practical element. General Studies or Critical Thinking not accepted.
- IB
6,6,5 - 6,5,5 at Higher Level to include 6 in Mathematics with a minimum of 32 points overall.

English language requirements
In order to undertake a programme of study here at the University, you will need to demonstrate that you have a good level of written and spoken English. You can demonstrate your level of English with IELTS/TOEFL/PTE or alternative qualifications.

The University tuition fee covers the cost of your tuition, examination and graduation.

Paying your tuition fees
We charge an annual tuition fee. The fees quoted are by full time or part time per year of study. For those studying courses over two or more years, the tuition fee will also be payable in subsequent years of your programme.
Tuition fees can be paid in full or in three instalments per year of study.

I had secured a summer placement with GKN through the University Mentoring Scheme, which allows me to learn about new skills and areas as well as incorporating the teaching I am learning at University. I also gained the opportunity to have an insight day with CDS (Control and Data Services) which is part of Rolls Royce Group.
