Remember Birmingham
For more than 100 years, many alumni and friends of Birmingham have generously left a lasting legacy with a gift in their Will. Some have chosen to honour family members or former lecturers, in recognition of the impact they made on their lives.
If you have fond memories of your time at Birmingham, a gift in your Will is a special way to recognise the role the University has played in your life. Your gift could open the door for future students to study on our beautiful campus or help our researchers to change the world we live in for the better, be that our work tackling cancer or climate change. Or you can support your College, School or Department. Legacy gifts have also had a transformational impact at Winterbourne House and Garden, The Barber Institute of Fine Arts and the Lapworth Museum of Geology.
Dr Jason Brockwell
(MBChB Medicine, 1989)
“I’m making a legacy gift to the University of Birmingham because I want other young people to have a chance to receive the life-altering educational opportunity that I was lucky enough to enjoy.”
There are several ways you can do so:
- A residuary gift is a percentage of your estate once all other specific gifts in your Will have been distributed (‘the residue’). You can leave the whole of your residue, or a percentage of it
- A pecuniary bequest is a specific gift from your estate, usually a specific sum of money
- A particular item, such as a work of art, property, or stocks/shares
- Nominate the University as a beneficiary in our Pension or SIPP (self-invested personal pension)
We understand that the details of your Will are deeply personal. We will treat any legacy conversation and gift with confidence. If you are happy to share your plans, we would love the chance to discuss what impact you would like your legacy to have (be it direct to the University or to the Hong Kong Foundation).
If you would like an initial exploratory conversation about leaving a legacy, in confidence, please contact Thomas Kay, Legacy and Endowment Manager by email or on (+44) 121 414 9161.
