    Athena Swan Bronze Award

In November 2024, the School of Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music gained an Athena Swan Bronze award.

Athena Swan is a national charter, run by Advance HE, which seeks to promote gender equality in Higher Education. The Athena Swan charter was originally established to advance the careers of academic women in STEMM subjects but has become more inclusive over time: it now applies to all disciplines, to all students and staff, and it is based on a broader understanding of gender equality, for example addressing the inclusion of trans people and, where appropriate, the underrepresentation of men.

As part of our award, we have committed to the UK Athena Swan Principles and have joined a wider community with a shared goal of addressing gender inequalities and embedding inclusive cultures.
