Department of Drama and Theatre Arts

We offer the highest quality of training in all aspects of the study and making of theatre. From historical research and contemporary performance analysis, to the technique of the actor and imagination of the playwright, to the creative and technical skills of the lighting designer and stage manager.

We work in collaboration with professional directors, producers and actor-trainers to offer our students every opportunity to obtain the highest level of academic and professional achievement in their chosen paths of learning.

The Department of Drama and Theatre Arts has a wide-ranging research and teaching culture which combines historical and political perspectives with theoretical and practical expertise, particularly in actor-training, directing and contemporary playwriting and performance-making. Within the department we have developed research and teaching strengths in 20th and 21st Century European theatre, political and critical theory and research-led creative practice, and also offer expertise in Greek Tragedy, Russian Theatre, Shakespeare, and Victorian Theatre.
