Entry requirements
Entry requirements
LLB programmes - The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB), or equivalent, or a suitable foundation programme, such as one of our Foundation Pathways, for admission to undergraduate programmes. Students who have completed the first year of a 4-year Bachelor degree from a recognised institution in Nigeria with excellent grades (2.1, 3.0/4.0, 3.5/5.0) will also be considered.
LLB for Graduates - We require a 2:1 or equivalent in a non-law degree from a recognised institution for entry to our LLB for Graduates programme. We can also consider high 2:2s alongside relevant professional experience.
LLM programmes - We require a 2:1 or equivalent in an LLB degree from a recognised institution for entry to our LLM programmes. Relevant equivalent study or professional experience can also be considered for entry.
English language - English language at grade C or above in the WAEC or NECO SSCE, or successful completion of an undergraduate programme at a recognised Nigerian university, is sufficient to meet the standard English language requirements. Alternatively, we ask for IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band. More information can be found on our international pages.

Students with an overseas law degree looking to practice in Nigeria will need to complete both the parts of the Bar course - Part I (foreign-trained students only) and Part II (all students).

As a Birmingham Law School student, you will benefit from our Centre for Professional Legal Education and Research, which offers a range of opportunities to increase your experience of law in action and enhance your employability. Birmingham Law School has a dedicated Student Experience Officer who works in collaboration with staff across the College to develop a range of enhancement activities for current students. The Student Experience team host a wide range of activities and initiatives designed to enhance and enrich your experience to ensure you make the most of your time at Birmingham.

Advice and support
All members of Law academic staff have office hours set aside each week for students to meet them on a 1-1 basis, meaning that they are always available if you need further clarification or assistance with your studies. On arrival, you will be allocated a personal tutor who will support your personal and academic development, as well as assist with any welfare issues you might have for the duration of your study.
There is also lots of advice and support on offer from our International Student Team, both during the application process and throughout your stay in Birmingham.
