The Middle East has rapidly become a centre for international trade and commerce; much of this business is done in accordance with English Common Law which means that a law degree from Birmingham Law School is an invaluable opportunity for your future aspirations. To equip you with the essential legal knowledge and skills, we offer both general study to give you a firm understand of all the key areas of law, such as our LLB Law or LLM General Law, whilst we also offer the option to specialise in a particular area such as our LLB International Law and Globalisation or LLM Commercial Law.

Entry requirements

LLB programmes - Students with suitable grades at A Levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), USA SATs/AP, or the Indian Standard XII Higher Secondary Certificate or equivalent may be considered for entry to an undergraduate programme. Holders of the Tawjihiyya/Al-Thanawiya or equivalent, are not usually eligible for direct entry onto our undergraduate courses without completion of a suitable foundation programme, such as one of our Foundation Pathways.

LLB for Graduates - We require a 2:1, GPA of 3.0/4 or 75%, or equivalent in a four-year non-law degree from a recognised institution for entry to our LLB for Graduates programme. We can also consider high 2:2s alongside relevant professional experience.

LLM programmes - We require a 2:1, GPA of 3.0/4 or 75%, or equivalent in a four-year LLB law degree from a recognised institution for entry to our LLM programmes. We can also consider high 2:2s alongside relevant professional experience.

English language - You will need to demonstrate English language proficiency, either through an English test such as IELTS, TOEFL or PTE, or we may be able to accept previous qualifications as evidence. We ask for IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band. More information can be found on our international pages.

Accreditation

All of our LLB law degrees offer by Birmingham Law School on our Edgbaston campus are fully-accredited UK law degrees. Our degrees therefore allow you to progress your legal career in becoming a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales. All across the world, many countries utilise the English Common Law system which means that you may be able to seek employment across the globe and have a deep understanding of the legal practices. Most of the University of Birmingham Dubai's law degrees are accredited by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Student societies

Many nationality groups form student societies during their time at the University of Birmingham. From the Arab Society or Saudi Society, to the University of Birmingham’s Islamic Society, which is one of the largest and most active student Islamic societies in the UK and aims to bring together students to learn more about Islam. There are plenty of opportunities to join a vibrant community of people in one of our 300 incredible student groups, societies and associations!

Advice and support

All members of Law academic staff have office hours set aside each week for students to meet them on a 1-1 basis, meaning that they are always available if you need further clarification or assistance with your studies. On arrival, you will be allocated a personal tutor who will support your personal and academic development, as well as assist with any welfare issues you might have for the duration of your study.

There is also lots of advice and support on offer from our International Student Team, both during the application process and throughout your stay in Birmingham.
