Indian students at Birmingham Law School

LLB programmes - Holders of the Indian Standard XII will be considered for entry to the first year of our undergraduate degree programmes. We consider grades of 85% ISC, CBSE, Maharashtra or 80% West Bengal or 90% Other State boards to meet our requirements

LLB for Graduates - We require a 2:1 or equivalent in a non-law degree from a recognised institution for entry to our LLB for Graduates programme. We can also consider high 2:2s alongside relevant professional experience.

LLM programmes - We require a 2:1 or equivalent in an LLB degree from a recognised institution for entry to our LLM programmes. Relevant equivalent study or professional experience can also be considered for entry. We are happy to accept applications from 3 or 5 year LLB holders from India from prestigious institutions.

English language - English language at 80% ISC, CBSE, Maharashtra or 75% West Bengal or 85% Other State boards in Standard XII English, is sufficient to meet the standard English language requirements. Alternatively, we ask for IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band. More information can be found on our international pages.

Birmingham Law School is an approved University by the Bar Council of India. Students intending to practice Law in India should generally take the 3-year LLB, but do contact us with any queries.

Birmingham Law School has a dedicated Student Experience Officer who works in collaboration with staff across the College to develop a range of enhancement activities for current students. The Student Experience team host a wide range of activities and initiatives designed to enhance and enrich your experience to ensure you make the most of your time at Birmingham. 

Student societies

Many nationality groups form student societies during their time at the University of Birmingham. From the Hindu Society, to the University of Birmingham’s Indian Society, which aims to bring together students from India, of Indian heritage and anyone interested in the Indian culture, there are plenty of opportunities to join a vibrant community of people in one of our 300 incredible student groups, societies and associations!

Advice and support

All members of Law academic staff have office hours set aside each week for students to meet them on a 1-1 basis, meaning that they are always available if you need further clarification or assistance with your studies. On arrival, you will be allocated a personal tutor who will support your personal and academic development, as well as assist with any welfare issues you might have for the duration of your study. 

There is also lots of advice and support on offer from our International Student Team, both during the application process and throughout your stay in Birmingham.
