Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO)

The Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) offers a programme of events and activities to help students get the most from our global network of more than 350,000 alumni (graduates). We generate opportunities for alumni, friends and supporters to stay involved with the University, and encourage philanthropic support for charitable projects across campus.

The University of Birmingham was founded on charitable giving. From giving students from all backgrounds the chance to study here to helping families experiencing the anguish of early miscarriage, find out how we are fundraising for a range of pioneering projects addressing society's biggest challenges.

About DARO

Alumni, friends and supporters

The Global Engagement Team organises events and volunteering opportunities, thanks our supporters and provides communications to keep alumni and friends engaged and connected with the University. Publications include the twice yearly Old Joe magazine.

Fundraising

The Development Team comprises Regular Giving and Major Gifts programmes aiming to encourage individuals, alumni, and trusts and foundations to support the University through philanthropy. Every gift makes a real difference. The Regular Giving Team is responsible for our student calling team, fundraising appeals and legacies.

Research and data

The Supporter Insight (SI) team is responsible for identifying, managing and creatively applying data to support the Development and Alumni Relations Office and the wider University. New audience development, gift accounting, and information security compliance are part of the team's commitment to effectively recording and enhancing our supporter information.

Gavin Maggs

Director of Development and Alumni Relations

“More than a century ago we were founded on philanthropic giving and this vision remains at the heart of our institution. The generosity of our alumni and supporters continues to transform lives, with every gift making a real difference.”
