Mark has the lead educational administrative role within the College of Medicine and Health and is responsible for the College Education Office that integrates education support activities across all undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate taught (PGT) programmes of the College. He is responsible for ensuring the effective provision of operational and strategic support to the College in delivery of all educational and related activity. His post carries a high degree of management, advisory and developmental responsibility for the professional administration of the College’s services that support education delivery. 

Biography

The College runs seven main UG programmes. These are Medicine and Surgery MBChB; including intercalated degrees, BSc Biomedical Science; MSci Biomedical ScienceDental Surgery BDS; Dental Hygiene and Therapy BSc, the BNurs courses and finally MPharm Pharmacy. The College also runs over 50 PGT programmes. As the Head of Education Services and Support Mark has a detailed knowledge of the complex educational programmes within the College. He thinks strategically, analytically and creatively to improve the College’s support to education delivery. Mark motivates a team of intermediary specialist administrative managers to ensure their operational objectives are met in a consistent manner and satisfies the policy requirements of both the University and the teaching contracts with various regulatory bodies. An important element of his role is to ensure effective working relationships between academic, clinical, teaching and administrative staff in the College.

Mark reports directly to the College Director of Operations and is a key member of the College senior management team and one of 3 Heads of Operational areas. He works closely with the Director of Education and other relevant academic leads with College responsibilities for educational activity. As such, Mark occupies a key role in the development and implementation of the College Learning & Teaching strategy. A key element of his role is to contribute to strategic discussions and the development of plans within the College and, where appropriate, within the wider University. Mark pays particular attention to areas where performance does not meet required standards and trouble shoots and improves performance as necessary. This involves working with and influencing senior staff and high-level involvement in all areas of education delivery within the College.

Mark is responsible for a significant budget, with responsibility for developing and managing about 80 administrative and support staff, mostly through intermediary managers.
