Katie joined the University of Birmingham in 2006 as a local site project officer, with responsibility for the day-to-day management of a trial and recruitment of participants into the trial. Katie went on to manage a large multi-centre trial across 12 sites, with over 100 staff and that traversed the national health service (NHS), social care, private and voluntary sectors.
In October 2014, Katie moved to the Research and Knowledge Transfer Office (RKTO) in the Medical and Dental School (MDS) as a member of the Clinical Research Compliance Team (CRCT). Katie moved from setting up and recruiting participants, to ensuring that clinical research adheres to appropriate regulations and standards including the principles of good clinical practice (GCP). Katie was responsible for the maintenance of, and assuring adherence to, the University of Birmingham quality management system; leading on and performing audits for clinical trials; and supporting independent chief investigators through on-site visits and training. Katie completed training and developed her knowledge in GCP in the laboratory practice and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
In January 2023 Katie was appointed as the Quality Assurance Manager for the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit (CRCTU) and leads the unit’s quality management team.
