Study options, dates and fees

Today we have one of the largest international student communities in the UK with over 8,700 students from more than 150 countries worldwide currently studying with us.

Depending on your home country and the agreement with your home university, there are three study options available.

European Exchange

We offer exchange places for students studying at one of our partner universities in Europe. Your home university or institution will need to nominate you before you can apply.

International Exchange

We offer exchange places to students studying at partner universities outside of Europe. Your home university or institution will need to nominate you before you can apply.

Fee-paying Non Exchange

We welcome applications from fee-paying students from universities with no existing partnership with Birmingham. You can apply online with no requirement for advance nomination.

Study Abroad Scholarship and Bursary

1. Academic Excellence Scholarship

All applicants to our Study Abroad programme at Birmingham are eligible to apply for the Academic Excellence Scholarship, which can be worth up to £1,000. Eligibility criteria include applying for Study Abroad with the equivalent of a UK First Degree (3.2 GPA / 4.0 or above average score on your latest transcript). Applicants from non-English-speaking countries who apply with an IELTS score of 7.0 or above will also be eligible for the Academic Excellence Scholarship.

2. Financial Hardship Bursary

Study Abroad bursary provide financial support of up to £1,000 for applicants who would benefit from additional financial assistance to study in the UK. These awards take into account factors such as family income, financial hardships, and other economic circumstances that may make studying in the UK challenging. We are committed to providing opportunities for all students to study at Birmingham; however, as there are a limited number of bursaries available, early application is strongly recommended.

How to apply?

Once you receive your Offer Letter to Study Abroad at Birmingham, you must accept our offer to receive the Scholarship or Bursary Application link. Full details of eligibility and criteria will be provided via the application form. Applicants may only be considered for one award.
