Directed by Amy Draper, Comment is Free is James Fritz's brutal examination of our obsession with free speech and the voyeuristic nature of social media and 24-hour news. A stylised piece for many voices, it explores the aftermath of a fatal attack on a controversially outspoken political commentator through the ensuing online storm. Noisy, truthful and thought-provoking, it shines a harsh light on contemporary society and asks big questions about the power of words and personal responsibility, both on and off line.

About our productions

The Department of Drama and Theatre Arts is a leader in the integrated academic and practical study of drama, performance and theatre arts. Students gain first-hand experience using and testing the language of performance in a variety of specialist study and practical modules.

Each year the Department stages a season of plays closely tied to its academic and practical work. Productions are performed by third year undergraduates and supported in lighting, sound, design/costume and stage management by second and first year students. Plays are directed either by members of the Department or guest directors from the professional theatre. Productions will be staged in the departments own performance venue George Cadbury Hall.
